- Nick's an asshole and Lauren was stupid for staying with him- but you love them anyway (0., 4-4-98)
My mother introduced me to reading romance novels and the first one that she told me to read was "Paradise" and form that point on I fell in love with Judith Mcnaught's writing. Double Standard continued the legacy of great books that she has written. I have read all her books and I believe that she is high on the list of romance writers. She falls second to the queen of romance Kathleen Woodwiss because it was in my opinion this writer who brought romance writing to higher plateau of enjoyment. (S.T., 3-27-98)
hero too tortured, heroine too forgiving. But all of Mcnaught's books are better than most (C.C., 3-19-98)
hero too tortured, heroine too forgiving. But all of Mcnaught's books are better than most (C.C., 3-19-98)
i keep a copy of all your books judith! i just hoped this one was longer....... within hours i was finished...... great book..... when's the latest coming out? i love REMEMBER WHEN!!!! (S.A., 3-13-98)
i love every single one of judith's books. I read them over and over again. of course, i own every single book. I am so looking forward to her next on@ (M.T., 1-10-98)
Judith McNaught is my favorite romance writer. My neighbors and I love to trade back and forth. I've read most of her books at least three and four times, but I didn't care to much for Remember When and Tender Triumph. My all time favorite is Paradise. (P.L., 1-8-98)
The book was entertaining enough though definitely not on par with most of Judith's other books. I've read many romances and Judith McNaught's are the only ones that I buy to keep. Goes to say that she's the very best around. She spins such poignantly sweet and memorable characters - they make me laugh and cry. To all those who have read her books, you know what I mean. To those who have yet to sample her books, you don't know what you're losing out on.
Judith is defintely the best for this genre. However, I must say that Remember When was quite a disappointment. Ever noticed that her later writings ( Tender Triumph, Perfect, Remember When) are not as memorable as her earlier ones like Something Wonderful, Paradise, Kingdom of Dreams, Whitney etc....? Judith, I'm waiting for your new novels and I really hope that it will be 'something wonderful' and 'almost heaven' to read them. (S.L., 5-4-97)
I enjoyed the book but I do believe she should have made him suffer more after his
distrust and deliberate cruelty to her. Judith McNaught's heroes
are often too cruel and unforgiving. He didn't even question his
assumptions. The heroines are too forgiving. (L.A., 5-1-97)
I really loved the book. It made me cry at the sad moments and smile at their happy events. The best part about the book was the ending because it was the sweetest thing I had ever read. (S.L., 2-24-97)
There's no doubt about it-Judith McNaught is my favorite romance writer. I laughed, I cried, but mostly I had a great time reading about Lauren and Nick. I don't believe that this book was poorly written because Lauren always took Nick back. It happens. Nick may have been a jerk at times, but that was only because of his general distrust of women. He expected them to hurt and use him. He was not a total jerk. Lauren took him back because he did the one thing that he hadn't done for anyone else he truly loved since his mother's rejection of him as a child-he gave her a present. Not only was he offering her a material gift, but himself also. I loved this book! (S.J., 1-25-97)
A great story. I realy felt what the heroine was feeling. The way Lauren met Nick was totally hilarious. It sounded like something that would happen to me. (K.B., 1-4-97)
This book will keep you smiling til' the end. This is one book that you'll never want to put down. Mrs. McNaught I give you a thumbs up!!!! (A.N., 12-19-96)
I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!!! IT'S ONE OF THE GREATEST ROMANCE I HAVE EVER READ!! TO ALL THOSE WHO DID NOT LIKE THE STORY, YOU OBVIOUSLY DON'T KNOW WHAT GOOD READING IS ALL ABOUT!! NEXT TIME, DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANYTHING NICE TO SAY!!!OUT OF A FIVE RATING, I WOULD GIVE THIS BOOK A TEN!! (J.P., 12-3-96)
pick it up and you'll never put it down. but when you do put it down, it leaves you with a smile! (H.H., 12-1-96)
I discovered her books while living in Asia 7 years ago, and she has become one of my favorite authors. I especially like how she develops all of her characters by ascribing humorous and off-beat personalities to otherwise minor people. Judith's novels are always a special treat for me and eagerly await each new one. (k.b.k.) (K.B.K., 11-29-96)
Double Standards has been on my keeper shelf for six years, but I'm starting to feel a little ashamed of my weakness for Judith McNaught's compelling stories. I'm disgusted with many of her heroes (Nick Sinclair and Clayton Westmoreland of Whitney, My Love are two prime offenders) who really degrade the heroines and are forgiven within a three page scene. I think I would enjoy McNaught's books a little more if the heroines would tell these guys to get lost for a couple of chapters. Seeing these Alpha guys humbled for more than a page or two would be welcome. (C.R., 11-25-96)
Double Standards is just one of those special books.
Nick has a roguish charm that makes him hard to deny.
I'd take him back any day. (S.J., 11-19-96)
I love the book!!!!It was so romantic!!!!The first time I saw it I first thought of it of being boring then my friends told me about it then I decided to read it I was surprised it was really GREAT!!! (C.C., 11-16-96)
Judith McNaught is one of my favorites and I would highly recommend all of her books to anyone whatever catagory they read. (D.L.D., 11-12-96)
Double Standards really brings out the best in Judith Mcnaught's writing. Though it was one of the shortest book Judith has written. I really fell in love with the hero and heroine. I even recommend my friends to read it and they too loved it. Suddenly, everybody is reading Judith's book. (E.G., 11-7-96)
I read it over and over and over. (H.M., 11-4-96)
"Double Standard" is the first book that drew my attention to Judith. Although, what I read is a chinese version, it just made me read it agian and again. Years later, I finally got to have the whole collection of Judith books(English version). This may not be the greatest book from Juidth, but it's the only book of hers can make cry. I just love it. (S.F., 10-30-96)
This was not my favorite McNaught book, but it was still great and worth reading. My favorite McNaught book, Until You, would have a rating of 10 on a scale of 1-5. She's the greatest romance novel writer (A.T., 10-19-96)
Judith McNaught has the formula. Although I still don't by into the 23 year old virgin. (S.G., 10-4-96)
I love your work, Judith, but I think Lauren forgave Nick much, much too easily and fast. You should at least have made him beg! And she should have held out for a few days at the very least, after all she's been through! (J.A., 9-27-96)
Thought the hero is a jerk but this is really a wonderful romance and I
really love Lauren. (F.S.H., 9-17-96)
Enjoyed the fairly current storyline. Whether she is writing in the present or past, Judith McNaught has a wonderful knack for telling a story. (L.S., 9-6-96)
I really hate to throw cold water on this wonderful review page, but
I have A LOT of trouble with a hero who blatantly seduces a virgin,
dumps her, puts her through hell, and then, months and months later,
decides maybe he wants her back. And I SERIOUSLY question the
sanity of a woman who would take a jerk like this back -- no matter
how many companies he owns! No, Judith; not this time. (S.R., 9-2-96)
I liked it. At times, though, I was ready to emasculate the hero, or jerk ( in the beginning, at least). Otherwise I liked the heroine she was plucky. (N.C., 9-1-96)
It was a truly magnificent book. I'll read it again and again. My best friend and I share books by Judith McNaught. We both agree that she is gifted writer. Her stories arepoignant with a touch of humor here and there. When I pick up one of her books I have trouble putting it down even to eat or sleep. (C.C., 8-13-96)
Excellent! Excellent! Excellent! Not to missed. (L.P., 8-7-96)
Your novel is excellent! (J.L., 7-25-96)
Double Standards has its own set of standards, and Judith McNaught did not dissappoint her readers with this. Nobody could evoke so much tenderness or love as Lauren Danner could. Judith McNaught has touched the heartstrings of everyone who ever read the book. It actually makes sensible people cry. Highlight: when Lauren is accused of leaking vital company information.
A must-read!!! (L.B.T., 7-24-96)
Enjoyed it alot! I'm a secretary and loved the way she made Lauren
into an intelligent, beautiful woman (which there are a few out there in
the secretarial field). I thought this book was to be made into a movie --
I hope so! (P.F., 7-23-96)
I've enjoyed all of McNaught's books. And this one doesn't disappoint. I love the way she builds on the characters and you can't help but get caught up in the heroine's plight. This one was one of her better contemporaries..though my favorite McNaught contemporary is Paradise. Her historicals are as good if not better. Something Wonderful was abosolute perfection. McNaught is in a league all her own in romance fiction! (E.L., 7-12-96)
This is my favorite J. McNaught book. I love Nick & Lauren, and the story is so beautiful & poignant. (K.N., 7-9-96)
With all the accolades Judith McNaught has been receiving with regards
to ALL her books, what more can I add? She is simply the "Perfect"
romance writer!! (G.C., 7-9-96)
Judith McNaught is my "ALL TIME" favorite author. Her books are so heartwarming, you laugh and cry. (C.S., 7-5-96)
Not as good as the rest of McNaught's books. (C.C., 7-3-96)
I loved it! I love all of McNaught's books especially Paradise and Perfect. WOW!! I can't wait until "Remember When" comes out. (C.B., 6-12-96)
Although I tend to dislike her contemporary romances (I love her historicals!), this one was excellent and a true love story. (J.W., 6-12-96)
Judith McNaught is the most amazing author. Her stories, all of them, have the unique ability to make one laugh and to make one cry. I can't wait until the next one. (C.K., 6-10-96)
I have enjoyed all of Judith McNaught's books, but Almost Heaven and Paradise are my all time favorites. I
am waiting for Remember When to come out and hope it is as good as the rest of her books. (P.Z., 6-2-96)
Judith McNaught is a favorite of mine. I have all her books
and is one of the few authors that I keep the books. Many
I just pass on, but hers are unique! (P.T., 5-29-96)
She is one of my all time favorite authors. I am excitedly awaiting her next novel "Remember When" which should be out any time now. She is a must for romance novel lovers!! (E.R.T., 5-23-96)
As contemporary romances go, this book is perfectly readable, though not strongly memorable. I've found McNaught to be generally serviceable, whether writing historical or contemporary, though in her contemporaries she occasionally reveals herself to be a bit too enamored of Hollywood glitz for my tastes. (E.P., 5-23-96)
Judith McNaught is an extremely talented writer, and every book of hers is a real treat. She always brings you to a heart-wrenching peak before she wraps up the plot.
If you like modern romances, you'll like this one or Paradise. For historical romances, definitely pick up Whitney My Love. (L.S.G., 5-21-96)
Loved the Book! I'm waiting for the latest! (T.G., 5-20-96)
Judith McNaught really likes to engross the reader with the history of the main characters to entangle them more deeply into the story. I was trully entangled and really enjoyed the book. There were nice moments of tension and excitement that really added to the entertainment value of the novel. (B.S., 5-20-96)
I also like all the story made by Judith McNaught. Hope I could hear more reveiws from other readers and update me on her latest novel. I'm still waiting for the book entitled "For the Roses" (J.C., 5-14-96)
I loved this book! I didn't cry, no, SOB like I did in Paradise and Perfect but I loved it! (K.S., 5-12-96)
I love all Judith McNaught books, but especially her contemporary ones. Her plots are believable and her heroes are wonderful! Hard to put down. I loved Paradise too! (N.R., 5-9-96)
I love Judith McNaught! This book has a special place in my library, anytime I feel overcome, I pick it up and read about characters that faced life head on, and won, despite the circumstances. I would recommend any McNaught book, but especially this one! (T.B., 4-23-96)
McNaught is my absolute favorite. This book was just great. And so are other books written by her. All of her heroes are so sexy, and her heroines are so nice and compassionate. McNaught is one of a few authors who can make me cry with the characters. (T.J., 4-21-96)
What can I say! It was a great story. I couldn't put the book down until I had finished it. I laughed with Lauren and I cried with her. Heroines don't come any better than than the ones in Ms. McNaught's novels! It was a beautiful love story. (K.K., 4-18-96)
