Helium Tank Rental

Members of Student Organizations and University Departments may rent a helium tank from SORC and inflate their own balloons to save money. Allow several days' notice for helium tank rentals. To reserve a tank, stop by SORC in person to complete a contract.

Safety

How to attach regular/nozzle to helium tank

  1. Remove cap.  Keep in safe place until finished.
  2. Screw nozzle into side of tank valve (top of tank).  No wrench is necessary.  Simply tighten by hand using the handle on the nozzle.
  3. Turn valve release (knob on top of tank) in the “Open” direction all the way.  (You can see the “Open” and “Close” directions by looking directly down at the tank from above).
  4. Push black rubber nozzle from side to side to release helium into balloons.  Do no push the black rubber piece too hard, as it will eventually tear.  It is better to dispense helium into the balloons slowly (less balloon breakage will occur).

How to remove helium nozzle from tank

  1. Turn valve release in the “Close” direction all the way.  Tighten by hand.
  2. ***Very important***  Release excess helium in black rubber part of nozzle (when you push it, helium will come out in one short, quick burst).
  3. Unscrew to remove nozzle from side of tank.  No wrench is necessary.  Simply loosen by hand using the handle on the nozzle.
  4. Replace the cap onto the tank.  You will incur a replacement charge if the cap or the nozzle is not returned.
