The SORC is open at 10AM weekdays and 12PM Sundays during the school year.  During the summer, The SORC is open weekdays at 11AM.  Depending on the size of the order, most can be completed within an hour of when the clerk arrives.  Please note:  a staffing charge may apply if you require pickup before normal hours of operation on weekdays or anytime on Saturdays.  The Student Balloon Coordinator will explain this charge in his/her email estimate of charges.

The SORC delivers to most campus buildings.  Delivery and setup charges of $0 to $40 apply.  Delivery charges will be determined on a case-by-case basis and will be explained by the Student Balloon Coordinator in his/her email estimate of charges (click here for examples).

Do you need balloons to last for several days? 

The SORC offers two options:

1.  We can inject "Hi-float" into 5-inch, standard 11-inch, or 16-inch balloons.  Hi-float extends the life of the balloon to double or triple its original float time.  To estimate the cost of Hi-float, add 25% to your balloon subtotal (not delivery fees).  To request Hi-float, simply type this request in the "Special Instructions" section above.

2.  Click here to view mylars that last up to a month when inflated!  Mylars are available by special order only; please allow at least 5 days before your event.  Special order balloons are not returnable if you cancel your order.  Mylars are available in three shapes: (round, heart and star) and several sizes (from 5-inch diameter to 36-inch diameter (see pictures).

Special Instructions: 

Unless you request otherwise, we will equally distribute the colors in each bouquet and will put balloons on contrasting strings.  For example, if you choose citrine yellow and sapphire blue balloons in a bouquet of 6, we will use 3 of each color and will tie the yellow balloons on blue strings, and blue balloons on yellow strings.  We are happy to alter this to suit your preferences.  Please specify any special instructions in the box below, pertaining to strings, delivery, anything special that you need!

  HELIUM RENTAL:  Helium tank rental is available, but the tank must remain in the Michigan Union.  The SORC offers three tank sizes, ranging from 80 balloons to 400 balloons and $25 to $60 in price.  A cart and regulator (nozzle) are provided at no charge.  Spools of curling string can be rented (take the whole 500-yard spool but return use only what you need) for $2.00 per color.  Payment must be made via department or SOAS transfer (no cash or checks).  To rent a helium tank, please stop at The SORC in person to discuss safety and liability expectations and complete a contract.

  TIMELINE: Place your order at least one week before your event for best results.  We will always try to accommodate you, but we are a student-staffed facility, driven by class and academic schedules!

  CANCELLATION POLICY: Upon confirmation of the order by the balloon coordinator and receipt of payment (either in the form of cash, check, or signature on the contract allowing for transfer of funds via university account), any cancellations made within 3 days of the order will result in a cancellation fee of 25% to 100% of the order.  By clicking the "Place Order" button below, you acknowledge your compliance with this policy.

  FINALIZING YOUR ORDER:  All orders are not finalized until payment is provided.  For payment by cash, check, or SOAS transfer, a visit to The SORC is required.  For payment by department transfer, simply respond to the Student Balloon Coordinator's e-mail estimate, and no further authorization is necessary.
