Table Tents
Basic Description and EligibilityOver 20,000 students, staff, faculty, and community members enter University Unions every single day for lunch, dinner, meetings, or studying. Now you can advertise for your organization's events and programs on the dining tables in three University Unions: the Michigan Union, Michigan League, and Pierpont Commons. Student organizations and university departments can rent Table Tents to advertise for their events; they are not available to unaffiliated businesses or individuals. |

Availability
Table tents are available for one week at a time from late August until early May. Because of high demand, a lottery is conducted each semester for the use of the space.
- Fall lottery held the second week of classes in September
- Winter lottery held the second week of classes in January
- Table Tents are not available from early May until late August

Content Requirements
All basic content requirements established by The SORC apply, most importantly: the name of the student organization or department must be visible on all ads. Letters identifying your organization must be at least 1/4" tall. Your organization must not violate any content, trademark or name usage policies.
Construction Parameters
Ads must be 4X6 inches or less. Ads that are wider than 4 inches or taller than 6 inches will not fit into the acrylic holders. Only one side of the paper will show, so please submit single-sided ads.
Money saving tip: You can cut down an 8.5 X 11" piece of paper into quarter sheets to save money, but if you do this, the ads are 4.25 inches wide, and they will not fit. (8.5 inches divided by 2 = 4.25 inches). If you choose to do this, cut 1/2-inch off the edge first, and then they'll work. Cut as accurately as possible (straight angles and corners). The SORC has a paper cutter for your convenience. Cut only 6 sheets at a time; thicker stacks dull the blade and cause the ads to be out-of-square. The extra five minutes it takes is worth it.
Deadlines & Placement
Organizations must provide 300 4x6 inch table tents by Friday at 6PM for Saturday evening / Sunday morning placement. If, for example, your table tents are scheduled to go up on Sunday the 14th, they must be submitted by Friday the 12th. Student employees of The SORC will place table tents only on Saturday evenings and Sunday mornings; there is no follow up route later in the week for table tents. Advertising areas include:
- Michigan Union : MUG, Study Lounge
- Michigan League: Underground, Beanster's
- Pierpont Commons: Leonardo's, Piano Lounge, Recreation/TV space by convenience store
SORC is responsible for inserting about 1,800 table tent advertisements every week. This requires a several hours and three different drivers, so this route is only completed once a week. If you miss the Friday deadline, you have the option of loading the table tents yourself, but you must do so onsite in three buildings; you should expect to spend 6-8 hours loading the signs. You must clear this with SORC management, so you can be properly advised of which ads can be removed to make room for yours!
Limits
- Lottery results will be posted on this website a few days after the deadline.
- If you win one of the four available spaces each week, you'll simply need to complete a contract and pay for the space rental before the deadline.
- A hierarchical list of each week's winners will be posted on this website, and each group will have 48 hours to accept and pay for their table tent space or decline it. If, as of the deadline, the group has not completed a contract, the space will be available to the next group in line. Plan to check the website every 2-3 days to see if your group is next in line!
- You may not use table tents more than twice per semester. If your group has the good fortune of being chosen as a winner of more than two weeks, you must choose only two. If, however, the wait list for a particular week is exhausted and no one wishes to reserve the space for that week, groups may use more than 2 weeks per semester.
- Separate reservations necessitate new inserts, unless you have the extremely good fortune of winning two consecutive weeks. If, for example, your group wins one of the spaces on 10/3-10/10 and again on 10/24-10/31, you will need to submit a set of inserts for 10/3, and later a new set of inserts for 10/24.
- Winners are responsible for the space rental fee ($50 per week for student organizations; $100 per week for departments) plus the purchase price of the table tent inserts (at the printer or copy center of your choice). Table tent inserts must be cut to size before submitting to SORC for placement.
Limitation of liability
U.U. Custodial employees are advised not to disturb table tents, but SORC does not assume responsibility for table tents that are damaged or discarded before the reservation expires. Table tent inserts will be discarded in the recycling receptacle when the reservation is complete.
