Making a humble beginning in 1977, SPICMACAY, has come to be a mighty movement of social change seeking to understand the totality of what is known as culture. Superficially it would appear to promote Indian classical music and dance. However for the founders of the movement , these were the quintessential media that instilled the finer and subtler aspects of an old, thoughtful civilization. The magnetism of the classical performing arts was thus a tool to cajole, attract, convince and calm the young.

In 1990, some of the former volunteers of SPICMACAY,settled in the United States, decided to extend the activities of this organization to the Americas and thus was formed SPICMACAY (USA).

SPICMACAY is a voluntary, non-profit, public service organization. It is dedicated to promoting the appreciation and knowledge of Indian music and culture in the university communities. Great care is taken to emphasize the best of the traditional culture of India. We use classical art forms to do this as they have withstood the vagaries of time and have engaged people over the millenia, and hence are a good representative of Indian culture - past and present. SPICMACAY, being a student organization does not charge admission fees for its events. This being the case, all the funds required to organize these programs are raised through voluntary donations and University support with a small part coming through advertisements in the program brochure.
