Virginia Grubaugh is the Assistant Coordinator of Services for Students with Learning Disabilities since 2000. As such, she and Dr. Stuart Segal work jointly with U of M students and prospective students who have documented Learning Disabilities (LD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorders (AD/HD), and Traumatic or Acquired Brain Injuries. In addition to helping students advocate for their learning needs with faculty, Virginia provides co-active academic coaching for all students registered with the SSWD office no matter what their disability. The focus of this process is on helping students: Clarify difficulties they are having, develop new habits of self-management and performance, and find additional resources as needed. Virginia speaks with many departments and units of the University, as well as at various professional conferences and organizations, to raise awareness of the issues students with disabilities face in higher education and current best practices in learning and teaching.
Virginia is a Past President for the Michigan Association of Higher Education and Disability (MI-AHEAD) and has served as on the board of directors for the Association of Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD), a national / international organization supporting the professional development of service providers who work with post-secondary students with disabilities.
Virginia has served as Coordinator of Services for Students with Disabilities at another university, academic advisor, counselor in Student Support Services, adjunct instructor, and therapist.

Virginia enjoys flower arranging, jewelry making, and formerly was a dance instructor teaching Russian ballet, jazz, tap, and creative movement.
