Advice from Outgoing Leadership

Each year the leadership council leaves much wiser then when they started.
Here are their words of advice to you, the leaders of today:

2006-2007:
  1. Don't be afraid of confrontation and make sure to constantly evaluate yourself critically.
  2. Plan in Advance - create benchmarks, deadlines, expectations, and set goals. Be enthusiastic and energized.
  3. Get to know the other leadership council members better - they are a great resource for support!
  4. Take time for yourself and balance KDP with student teaching.
  5. Balance your time, but get involved in as many events as possible.
  6. Ask for help! Don't try to take on everything yourself.
  7. Stay up to date with your responsibilities so that you can stay enthusiastic and organized!
  8. Take risks with your new ideas, but just remember to be reflective; you may need to adapt to make it work. (good luck!)
  9. Be supportive of each other through out the entire year … volunteer your help to all council members!!
  10. Stay positive! Be enthusiastic even if you feel like everything is a mess.
  11. Make the most of your time - get involved in as many events as you can outside of your own.
  12. Don't overwhelm yourself; set your project down and forget about it for 2 days. EMAIL, EMAIL, EMAIL :)
2007-2008:
  1. Remain positive and available to others. Remember why you are doing what you do …
  2. Stay positive!
  3. Be practical!
  4. Fulfill your responsibilities.
  5. Know what you need to do for your job ahead of time and then make it your own.
  6. Ask for support but also give it to others
  7. KEEP THE BIG PICTURE IN MIND! :)
  8. Get as involved as you can -- keep the original goal in mind -- "You get what you give!"
  9. Take advantage of opportunities to get involved with kids & your peers … that's what makes it worth it!
