So, you're interested in joing KDP's
Tau Epsilon Chapter at U-M, huh?
Well, you're already on the right track by checking out the
information on this website. Good for You!
The first thing you should know is that Kappa Delta Pi is an Honor
Society (not a sorority or fraternity) particularly interested in
recognizing excellence in education as demonstrated by its
co-educational members. Its membership is also
inter-generational, which means that part of the Society's mission is to
support teachers through out their entire educational career! There are
resources for every stage of the "Life Cycle" as a teacher. And even
more resources for graduate students and those interested in higher
education! How great is that?!
Most people start out joining KDP through the chapter at their
college/university where they are preparing to be an educator. If this
is the category you fit into right now and are a student at The
University of Michigan's School of Education, then you will want to join
the ACE-Award Winning Tau Epsilon Chapter!
Have an overall grade point average of
3.0 or better for undergrads and 3.25 for grads.
Attend one of the Member Orientation Meetings
held in September and January.
Fill out the chapter application
available at the orientation.
Pay the first year's dues fee
$38 Society + $20 Chapter + $12 One-time initiation fee = $70 total.
Participate in the Initiation Ceremony
held in October and February.
And that's all there is to joining as a student.
Some people don't hear of Kappa Delta Pi until they become faculty
members at one of these colleges/universities lucky enough to have an
established chapter. If this is the category you fit into right now and
are a faculty member at The University of Michigan, then you too are
eligible to join the ACE-Award Winning Tau Epsilon
Chapter!
Demonstrate excellence and scholarship in your work.

Some people hear about KDP once they are already teaching in the
education field. If this is the category you fit into right now and are
a professional educator in The University of Michigan's surrounding
community, then you are also eligible to join the ACE-Award
Winning Tau Epsilon Chapter!

Once you have followed the steps in your category you will be
declared a member of Kappa Delta Pi for life. It will be up to you if
you want to remain an active member after your first year. If you
DO want to continue as an active member, then you will continue to pay
your yearly dues (which are less than your first year's fees). Paying
your yearly dues to just the society will only continue some of the
support offered by KDP. However, paying both the society and the chapter
dues each year will continue all of your KDP benefits. Some of
which, you will become more appreciative of the longer you
are in education.
Benefits of Chapter Membership include:
access to the monthly meetings featuring
hot topics on educational matters.

as well as news about chapter happenings.

support through out your teaching career
no matter where you live and work!
How about all of that?
Whether you decide to be an active member for just a year or the
rest
of your educational career, you will still need to decide how you want to
be recognized in Kappa Delta Pi. Do you want to be one of the members
(few as they are) who has KDP as a line on their resume? OR
Do you want
to be known in the Chapter, Society, and Educational Community as a
worthy contributor? If you want to be the latter, then you will
want
to get involved in the chapter and society programming available to
you.
Well, you've got quite a few decisions to make about membership -- if
you need more information, just contact our current Membership Chair, Kristin Stebbins at
knste@umich.edu. Otherwise, we'll see you soon at one of the orientation
meetings!
