Aviv model 202 Circular Dichroism Spectrometer

The Aviv model 202 Circular Dichroism Spectrometer is equipped with a 450 watt Xenon arc lamp, and is capable of analyzing the spectral range from 175 nm to 800 nm.

For data acquisition and processing, it has Aviv’s new software that runs under Windows NT.

The instrument has a thermostatically controlled, 5-position cell holder that accepts 10 mm rectangular cells. There are also adapters available that allow you to use 1 mm, 2 mm, and 5 mm cells in the 10 mm cell sample holder. The temperature of the sample can be controlled from –5 C to +110 C.

The instrument also has a Microlab 500 series syringe pump that operates under data system control for doing titration experiments.

Here is a Protein Titration Protocol ( pdf).

Persons needing to use the CD spectrometer should contactJim Windak to schedule a ½ hour training session.

The Aviv User's Booklet should be printed out and read prior to the training session.

You must provide a valid shortcode account number for billing your access time on the instrument.

Access Rates:
$9 per hour for UM shortcode accounts.
$65 per hour for non-UM accounts.

The Aviv cicular dichroism spectrometer is located in room 3411 Chemistry.

For free software to analyze CD protein spectra, go to the CDPro website: http://lamar.colostate.edu/~sreeram/CDPro/

Reserve a time on this machine using the CTools calendar.
If you are outside UMich, contact Jim Windak to arrange time.
