Exploring Partnerships for Change

Environment Panel

Environmental justice as a social movement has grown rapidly since the early 1990s in response to concerns about disproportionate environmental burdens in poor, indigenous and minority communities.  The movement seeks to redress inequitable distributions of such burdens and improve access to nutritious food, clean air and water, parks and recreational facilities.  The panel, comprised of leaders from both the corporate and nonprofit realms, aims to provide a diverse perspective on corporate social responsibility as it pertains to the environment and environmental justice issues. Panelists will focus on the environmental impact of their roles, initiatives and organizations on their local communities and will also discuss current market trends as it pertains to this pressing topic. We are privileged to invite representatives from the Ecology Center, Ford Motor Company, and Steelcase.

Healthcare Panel

The Healthcare panel will address some of the main issues facing health care today and explore the role corporations can play in helping to find solutions to these issues. To make this possible we will discuss how corporations impact the health care sector from both a positive and negative stand. We will also consider some of the potential barriers preventing collaborations between corporations and the health care industry and explore possible solutions to these barriers.

Education Panel

There are growing efforts to address the disparity in educational performance between low income and high income areas.  Schools in lower income areas generally have less resources and funding to invest in education initiatives. This panel will explore the innovative approaches different organizations are pursuing to improve educational opportunities in underserved areas and the partnerships that enable these initiatives to succeed.
