The UC 260 On-line Discussion provides an opportunity to talk about important issues raised in lectures and other related topics of interest.

Response etiquette. In entering your responses, you do not have to agree with what other students have said, but you should show respect for their right to express their views. Focus on issues, not on individuals, and be prepared to explain your own opinions.

Grading. Your On-line Discussion grade will be based on a) participation, and b) thoughtfulness. Grades will be assigned roughly as follows:

• A = sign on and read two-three times per week; enter thoughtful responses that engage ideas raised by other students
• B = sign on and read two-three times per week; responses tend to ignore what other students have said
• C = sign on less than two times per week; responses tend to ignore what other students have said
• D = spotty participation, little effort to engage the issues raised by other students
• F = spotty or no participation, no effort to engage the issues raised by other students
