UCO: Who we are

Who We Are  Event Descriptions  Small Groups  Staff

University Christian Outreach (UCO) is an ecumenical Christian group which means that its members are Catholic, Orthodox or Protestant/Evengelical and attend various local churches. UCO promotes goodwill and understanding among students of different Christian traditions. This emphasis is rooted in Christ's desire for unity. UCO provides an environment for spiritual growth through worship, fellowship, ministry, and outreach. UCO also stresses practical day to day living as Christian disciples, and is grounded on the core truths of the Christian faith.

There is one body and one Spirit--just as you were called to one hope when you were called--one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.

Ephesians 4:4-6

UNITY

The call of Christ to dwell in unity is lived out in our promotion of relationships and collaboration among Christians of various traditions. This call crosses barriers of race, class, language and tradition as we share our lives with people from across the United States as well as other countries. Just some of the UCO chapters include Lansing, Pittsburgh, Penn., St. Paul, Minn., Monterey, Mexico, Costa Rica, London, and Manila, Philippines.

Praise the Lord, O my soul. I will praise the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.

Psalm 146:1-2

WORSHIP

UCO seeks to foster both love and worship of God and a life that is lived for His glory. During biweekly prayer meetings, UCO uses the gifts of the Holy Spirit in vibrant worship, to give honor and glory to God.

Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

John 8:31-32

DISCIPLESHIP

UCO emphasizes growth in Christian character and virtue. UCO stresses practical, day-to-day living as Christian disciples, as we seek to follow Christ with all of our lives, for the rest of our lives.

Two are better than one...If the one falls, the other will lift up his companion. Where a lone man may be overcome, two together can resist. A three-ply cord is not easily broken.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10,12

FELLOWSHIP

UCO is a place where friendships can be made on the foundation of Christ, to offer support and focus in daily lives. We deepen our relationships with each other through men's and women's groups and social events. UCO seeks to be a witness to others of Christ's committed love among his followers.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge...

Proverbs 1:7

WISDOM

UCO encourages learning and understanding of the basic truths of the Christian faith, and seeks to give students a solid intellectual grounding in these truths. Seminars, courses, and Bible studies offer an opportunity to learn from God's Word and the experience of others.

The King will reply, "I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me."

Matthew 25:40

SERVICE

UCO serves in many different areas, reaching out especially to high school students. During the school year, UCO conducts various day-long service projects and staffs weekend high school retreats. During the summers, UCO sends people on mission trips and staffs summer camps.

UCO seeks to encourage a deeper personal relationship with Jesus in each person's life. UCO enables students to grow and mature in each of these areas. Its ministry is to prepare and equip students for life beyond that of the university, in vocations, family, career, church and mission.

"UCO is truly reaching young people for Jesus Christ. It is providing an outreach that enables young men and women to experience totally the life Christ has called us to live. It is heartwarming to see so many qualified people give of themselves in UCO."

Bill McCartney, Founder of Promise Keepers
