Microfluidics in Biomedical Sciences Training Program

Student Board
	President Mayurachat Ning Gulari is pursuing her PhD in Macromolecular Science and Engineering at the University of Michigan (UM), where her research focuses on Development of Point of Care white blood cell counting system for HIV/AIDS. She is the recipient of the 2012-2013 MBSTP Fellowship. She received the B.S. degree in Chemical Technology and the M.S. degree in Polymer Science and Engineering from the Petroleum and Petrochemical College, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand. Prior to starting graduate school, she worked as a planning engineer in Star Petroleum Refining Company, a research engineer in Center for Display Technology and Manufacturing and then a senior research engineer in Prof. Kensall Wise’s research center, NSF Engineering Research Center for Wireless Integrated MicroSystems (WIMS ERC) at UM. Her research included designing and fabricating implantable micromachined probes for drug delivery, neural signal recording, and stimulation. In 2008, she joined in Neuronexus Technology to develop the next-generation MRI compatible deep brain stimulation electrodes for treatment of central nervous system disorders and transferred neural probe product from development facility to high volume foundry.
	Vice President Erik Guetschow is pursuing his PhD in chemistry at the University of Michigan. His research interests are focused on interfacing segmented flows to microchip electrophoresis for high-throughput screening applications. He received a B.A. in chemistry from Kalamazoo College.
	Development Chair Weiqiang Chen is currently a Ph.D. student working with Prof. Jianping Fu in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at University of Michigan. His research interests include microfluidics and biomaterials for biomedical applications in cancer, immunology and stem cell based regenerative medicine. He is the receipt of American Heart Association Predoctoral Fellowship, the Richard F. & Eleanor A. Towner Prize from the Rackham Graduate School, the Chemical and Biological Microsystems Society Student/Young Researcher Award and the National Fellowship of China. He is also the Best Annual Speaker of MBSTP Seminar Series of 2012-2013.
	Planning Chair Shinuo Weng is pursuing her PhD in mechanical engineering at the University of Michigan, where her research focuses on cellular mechanics and mechanotransduction, specifically the focal adhesion morphogenesis under external mechanical perturbation. Shinuo earned her B.E. from Shanghai Jiao Tong University (China) and M.S.E. from the University of Michigan, both in mechanical engineering.
	Publicity Chair Xiang Li is a PhD student in mechanical engineering at the University of Michigan. His current research interests is to develop microfluidic devices for biomedical applications, including blood cell separation and cell deformability measurement. Xiang received a B.S. degree in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics from Peking University in China.
