The Ronald McDonald House needs you! The Residence Hall Association is sponsoring a Sweetheart Ball on Friday, Feb. 7, from 7 p.m. to midnight in the Michigan League Ballroom. All proceeds will benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Ann Arbor. Don't worry about dinner; it's included in the $20/person, $38/pair price! Tickets are available at the Michigan Union Ticket Office or through any RHA representative until noon on Monday, Feb. 3. You can also email juliafar@umich.edu. All students are welcome for this formal dress event.

Around Ann Arbor
It's too late to sign up to dance for Dance Marathon, but it's not too late to help! Available opportunities include Yost Skate Night on Feb. 1 from 11:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Go with friends, skate your heart out and have fun---part of the cost of admission will go to Dance Marathon. By naming your favorite dancer at the door, you can help them meet his or her pledge for the marathon. Or if you're really not into skating, go to the Dance Marathon Web site and find out ways for you to volunteer at the marathon. There is a lot to do, so get involved and help do your part in "Making Kids Smile, Maize and Blue Style."

Cheap Fun
Check out The Underworld every Friday to play your choice of collectible card or board games for free. Make sure to bring your friends to play with you! The Underworld is located at 1214 S. University (734.998.0547).

If gaming is not in your system, perhaps the musical performance of U-M piano professor Sean Duggan will tickle your fancy. He is performing JS Bach's "Goldberg Variations" and Beethoven's "Diabelli Variations" tomorrow night in the Britton Recital Hall (1100 Baits Drive) on North Campus at 8 p.m. The concert is free. If you have any questions, call 734.764.0594.

Career
Now is the time to go after that summer internship. The Career Center is holding its annual Camp and Summer Job Fair from on Wednesday, Feb. 4, from noon to 4 p.m. in the Union. Registration is free for students.

Sports
The fourth-ranked U-M men's swimming and diving team capped off victories over Purdue and Indiana last week with two athletes capturing Big Ten Conference weekly honors. Junior Jason Coben and freshman Chris DeJong were honored Tuesday, Jan. 21. The swim team continues its Big Ten season with two big matchups looming at Canham Natatorium: Jan. 31 vs. Northwestern at 6 p.m. and Feb. 1 vs. Ohio State at 1 p.m.

Special Opportunities
Yellowstone HikerExplore life in the wilderness on the "Yellowstone Hiker" trip as you hike through rugged terrain. Your tour guides will lead you through the vast backcountry of waterfalls, rugged peaks, hidden hot springs and surprising thermal features. You'll also have an opportunity to see buffalo, elk, moose and eagles. Trip dates are June 22-27. This is the perfect way to spend your summer vacation!

In the Know
In this humble writer's opinion, Espresso Royale Cafe is one of the best coffee houses near campus. ERC combines the best of location, coffee, friendly employees and plenty of seating. Situated on South State Street, right across from Michigan Book and Supply, ERC is ideal for quick coffee runs between classes or as a refuge in the cold winter months. It also has a good variety of coffee and tea, in addition to fresh fruit, breads and muffins. The worst thing that can happen during a coffee shop visit is to arrive with all of your books, prepared to study, only to find that there is no place to sit. I frequent ERC often and this has happened rarely. Although ERC is never empty, its large space and variety of tables and couches guarantee that if you want a seat, there will be one.
