FAQs
(Frequently Asked Questions)

Q. Can there be live music at every party?
A: Unfortunately, no. Live music is not only very expensive, but it is also very difficult to find a live band that plays the type of ballroom music we can dance to (or to the correct tempos). We can try to provide live music for you perhaps once a year, but not all bands play both Standard and Latin music. If, however, you know of some great names, pass them our way and we'll check them out!

Q. Can you serve alcohol at parties and social dance?
A: Nope, sorry. We do not have a license and we do not plan to acquire one, because we do not see the need to serve alcohol at our events, and would have to go through extensive work to acquire a license and increase the security at our events (which would inevitably result in higher membership fees...).

Q. Is there a copy of the Club Constitution and other governing documents available on the website?
A: Yes, there is. If you go to our Club website and click on "About Us" on the top menu bar, you will find links to the Constitution, Board Meeting Minutes, and other documents on the left side of the page. We encourage you to check them out, and let us know if you have any questions or concerns!

Q. Can you hire a bouncer?
A: We do not see this as being a cost effective solution to any problems at Club events. We will, however, be increasing the presence of Officers at events, and any concerns should be addressed to them for resolution.

Q. Can you screen students prior to a Level 3 lesson?
A: Sorry, no, we cannot. We feel it is the decision of individuals to determine whether or not their dance experience equips them to handle any of our classes. We cannot make that decision for other people. Instructors have been encouraged, however, to teach at the level of the course, and not at the level of the individuals in the room. Additions specific concerns can always be addressed to a Board member.

Q. Why is there no air conditioning in the ballrooms? It gets quite hot.
A: Unfortunately, we have no control over the heating; the Union/League, regardless of how extreme the temperature may become, controls that. Please find an officer at an event if you have specific space concerns, and we will do our best to work with the Union/League staff to have the issues resolved.

If you have more questions regarding the club, please send us an email at BDCwebmaster@umich.edu.
