Alpha and Omega

Alpha is the beginning, from which all things proceed. Together, they are the first and the last letters in the Greek alphabet, and thus represent the totality, the beginning and the end; they symbolize the entire range of sounds, also infinity. These letters, as paralleled in the Hebrew language, have a numerical value as well. They are sometimes portrayed by the eagle and the owl, day and night, and as they are the cycle of time for everything that exists, they are said to contain the key to the universe. The shape of Alpha is related to a pair of compasses -- an attribute of god the creator, while Omega's shape is similar to a torch -- the fire of apolcalyptic destruction. Often appear as a bird and a fish respectively, or the upper and lower ABYSS.
