Sharks can be symbolic of persistence
and perseverance. In the novel A Canticle for Leibowitz, for example, a
shark is shown as one of the few surviving life forms after the second nuclear
holocaust, and it is made clear that it will survive and continue to exist even
beyond this disaster. In a more modern context sharks remain essentially unchanged
since they evolved over 350 million years ago.
Sharks are also FISH, which are symbolic of
Christ in Christian legend, among other things.
