Q & A - About Gymnastics and U-M

Why do you like doing gymnastics?   I love learning new things and pushing myself beyond where I think I can go. I also love to perform.
What is your favorite event or routine? Why?   My favorite event would have to be beam. For some reason I just feel comfortable up there. I also love to compete on floor. It is a lot of fun to show off my floor routine.

What attracted you to the University of Michigan?   It has everything. Great academics and a great gymnastics program. I also wanted to try and help Michigan win its first ever gymnastics NCAA National Championship.
What has been your most memorable gymnastics moment at Michigan?   Winning Big Tens. Everything was on that night. The crowd was great and the team was having so much fun out there on the competition floor.

What has been your biggest challenge/obstacle in gym or college (or both)? How did your overcome this challenge?   One thing that was hard last year was when I sprained my ankle in October. It was challenging b/c I was a freshmen and I didn’t think I was going to be able to compete for a while. Lisa, our trainer, helped me overcome this obstacle. She is great in helping us with whatever we need.
What has been your most embarrassing moment in the gym (ever)?   I can’t pinpoint anything. But it is pretty funny when everyone calls me lunch lady because I wore a hair net for my bun when I competed.
What goes through your head immediately before a routine?   I get really nervous but I just try and think how many times I have done this before and that usually calms me down.

What advice would you share with up-and-coming Michigan gymnasts?   College gymnastics is so much fun especially here at the U of M. Don’t let anything overwhelm you. You have a whole team right behind you.
What is your favorite part of the gym meets?   Having almost the whole crowd cheering for you and the team. It is so much different than club gymnastics. It is an amazing feeling that you don’t really know until you experience it.
Other than Michigan, where is your favorite place to compete and why?   Somewhere close to home because then I get to see more of my family.

What is the most interesting person that you've met at UM and why? (new 11/05!)   I would have to say Greg Harden has been the most interesting person I have met here at U of M. He is a very inspiring person who can always make you laugh.
What is the worst exam that you've taken? (new 11/05!)   The worst exam I have taken is a math exam my freshman year. Carol and I had a lot of fun studying for those. haha...

Q & A - About You Personally

What is something that people would be surprised to know about you?
I have a ton of pets and am a big animal lover.

How would your teammates describe you?
I hope they think I’m enthusiastic, encouraging, fun, and upbeat..

Who is one of your role models and why?
I would have to say my mom and my grandpa. They are very supportive individuals who have always encouraged me to reach for my goals.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
I don’t really know yet. Possibly a physical therapist, physical education teacher or a nurse.

Besides gymnastics, what is one thing that you do well?
Dance

If you were given $431,718 how would you spend it?
I don’t really know how I would spend it. I would probably give some it to my parents because they have done so much for me. After that I would have to see.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
I would love to be able to fly.

What’s the best way to show your Michigan spirit?
Proudly wear the maize and blue and support all our teams.

Since beginning college one thing I’ve learned is that…

If you could only listen to one song from now on, what would it be? (new 11/05!)
It would have to be 'When the Sand Runs Out' by Rascal Flatts.

Have you ever held a job? If so, what? (new 11/05!)
The only job that I have held is coaching. That is really all that I have had time for.

If there was one thing you wish you were better at, what would it be? (new 11/05!)
I wish I was better at drawing. I think it is so cool when you can look at something or picture something and put it down on paper.

If there was one country in the world that you could travel to, where would it be? (new 11/05!)
I don't have one specific country; I would just love to travel everywhere.
