1/06/12 Here's a welcome to another great year full of kendo! We have some exciting events coming up this Winter semester. Our first practice of the year will be held on January 10th, Saturday, from 8:30-10:00AM in CCRB's dance room (3275). If you are coming from north campus and need a ride, please contact our vice president, Cam Catalfu.
We also have a couple of kata workshops this month:
Detroit tournament in coming up in February (Feb 18-19 Detroit dojo). Please keep the date in mind, as it is one of the major tournaments in Midwest area. 9/07/11 Welcome to the 2011 year of UM Kendo! Our Fall term practices are scheduled to begin on Saturday, September 10th from 8:15 AM to 10:00 AM at the CCRB Dance Room (3275), and will go until December. If you're interested in joining the club or learning more about Kendo, please come to Festifall in the Michigan Diag on Thursday, September 8th! There will be club members there from 11am - 4pm to answer any questions you may have. Additionally, there will also be a Beginners Meeting following festifall at 7:00pm in Room A of the Michigan League. If you can't attend either meeting, but still have questions, please We look forward to seeing you there! 1/14/11 Welcome to a new year of Kendo! Practices have already begun and any beginners interested in coming should come to Room 3275 in the CCRB at 8am! If you are interested in getting a ride from North Campus, please contact Matt Morabito. There are also a number of upcoming Kata workshops! All times are from 8pm to 10pm! Friday September 17th in Room D of the Michigan League Wednesday September 22nd in the Koessler Room of the Michigan League Friday October 1st in the Kuenzel Room of the Michigan League Monday October 4th in Room D of the Michigan League 9/04/10 Welcome to the 2010 year of UM Kendo! This year promises to be very exciting with the upcoming Midwest Tournament at Eastern Michigan. Our Fall term practices are scheduled to begin on Saturday, September 11th from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM at the CCRB Dance Room (3275), and will go until December. Interested people are encouraged to stop by the Festifall booth on Wednesday, September 8th. Members will be there from 11am - 4pm to answer questions and give personal accounts. There will also be a Beginners Meeting following festifall at 7:00 to 9:00pm in Room B of the Michigan League. We look forward to seeing you there! IMPORTANT: Beginners should arrive before the beginning of practice (starting at 8 AM) to facilitate paperwork and sign up. 7/12/10 Congrats to our new officers! Maggie Lin takes over the presidency, Man Lee Kuang is our new Vice President, and Michael Sierant is our new Treasurer. Practices for the Fall 2010 semester will begin on September 11, 2010. 2/17/10 The 12th Annual Detroit Tournament was recently held at Seaholm Highschool on February 13th and 14th. Congratulations to everyone that attended the tournament and testing! 11/21/09 The end of semester party is rapidly approaching! It will be held on Saturday, December 5th at Michael Sierant's apartment and will begin promptly at 6:00pm. The directions will be sent out in a group email shortly. Remember, this is a potluck and bringing a diverse assortment of dishes is encouraged. Once you have decided on a (hopefully) delicious dish, please email to Matt Morabito. Further, the Midwest Kendo Federation Tournament was held last weekend in Chicago. Congratulations is extended to all 4 testing candidates, all who passed their tests! 08/31/09 Hopefully everyone had a good summer, but the new semester is almost here. The first practice of the fall semester will be at 8:30 am on September 12. It is important for beginners to be at this practice, so please come. Please try to be there early; the CCRB opens at 8:00, and it is important to be ready when practice starts at 8:30. We will have a table at Festifall, and we still need people to sign up. Please sign up for a time slot and help out! 08/07/09 The end of the summer potluck/barbecue has been scheduled for August 15 at 12:00 pm at Gallup park. Please sign up to bring something. Sad News Deborah Hong, one of our club members, and dear friend to many, has recently passed away. To her family and friends, we give our condolences. 3/1/09 I want to congratulate everyone for a sucessful Detroit Tournament. This year we had 15 competitors and were able to field 3 teams. We also had 3 people who volunteered during the tournament. Also, a special congratulations goes out to our testing cadidates. This year we had 3 Nikkyu, and 2 Ikkyu pass. 12/30/08 I hope everyone has had a great break and enjoyed the holidays. Our winter semester practices will begin on January 10th , at the normal Saturday morning, 8:30 - 10 am time. Kata workshops and additional practices will be announced at a later date. 10/30/08 Today there is a Kata workshop at 8pm in the Michigan Union. Please refer to the email for details and contact our president if you have any questions. Also, I want to say there was another sucessful MWKF tournament. Also, congradulations go to our competitors and sucessful testing cadidate. 08/30/08 Festifall is approaching quickly. Current members please contact our V.P. ASAP to give her your times of when you can be at our table. If you have any ideas for the event, please direct them to her as well. Festifall is a very important recruitment tool for us so consider carefully. The evening of Festifall, at 8:00 pm there is also a beginner's orientation in the Parker room of the Union. Please attend if you can. Also, FYI our first practice is on Sept. 6th at 8:30 am in the CCRB. 08/5/08 It is time for our end of the Summer term party! It is this Saturday at 6pm. For further details, please refer to the email announcent. If you are not receiving emails, contact me immediately. 07/15/08 Our Fall term practices are scheduled to begin on Saturday, September 6th from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM at the CCRB Dance Room (3275), and will go until December. Beginners are encouraged to arrive before the beginning of practice (starting from 8 AM) to facilitate paperwork and sign up. 07/07/08 Congratulations to the Midwest Kendo Federation National Team on their third place victory at the 2008 AUSKF Kendo Championships. 05/03/08 Our Spring/Summer term practices are scheduled to begin on Saturday, May 3rd from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM at the CCRB Dance Room (3275), and will go until August 2nd. Beginners are encouraged to arrive before the beginning of practice (starting from 8 AM) to facilitate paperwork and sign up. There will be no Kata workshops over the Summer, they will continue in the fall. 04/19/08 Congratulations for a sucessful Cleveland tournament and to our participants. We are looking forward to next year!
