Céad míle fáilte romhat!

(a hundred thousand welcomes!)

Léim; 'lay-em', Gaelic for 'leap'

The University of Michigan's first Irish Dance group was started in the winter of 2000 by a group of five students. Having been trained in Irish Dance at various levels, they sought to create an opportunity for others like them to continue dancing upon arriving at the University and to teach those who had never had the chance to do so before.

In November of 2000 they put on their first show at Pierpont Commons on North Campus with 8 dancers, 4 dance numbers, and a budding local Celtic band. The following semester saw them progress to the East Quad RC Auditorium, gaining 4 new dancers and more dances.

The group has since progressed to a full-fledged performance group, gaining an official name and recognition both on and off campus. They have even acquired their own costumes, which were designed by their very own Lauren Berry with the help of Amy Taylor. You can now see Léim Irish Dance perform annually at the Michigan Theater on Liberty St. in Ann Arbor, as well as various multicultural events around campus, Celtic Festivals across the state of Michigan, and other events in and around the Ann Arbor area. They have also been known to join forces with established Celtic bands such as Kalamazoo's Rare Combination and Indiana's kilt-rock band Mother Grove. Members have various ability levels ranging from years of training to those just having begun this semester.

Everyone is welcome, no experience is necessary! For information on joining, contact Anna Z. - annaz@umich.edu
