Nearly two decades have passed since the Men’s Glee
Club has traversed the Atlantic to sing amidst the
splendor of the United Kingdom. Now, in a time of
global political unrest, this tour offers the opportunity
for the University of Michigan and the United States to
send ambassadors of song to promote good will. With
seven concerts planned at prominent venues such as
St. Martin-in-the-Fields in London and Christ Church
Cathedral in Dublin, the Glee Club seeks to not only
entertain, but also to provide insight into the lives
of Michigan Men for our neighbors across the pond.
The sixty-five Clubbers embarking on this Tour will be
profoundly affected by singing in such renowned venues
and by touring abroad in general. Exposure to cultural
differences will broaden their perspective on life, while
the joint concert with the Flint Male Voice Choir will
provide a unique opportunity for camaraderie. Also,
with the increasing prominence of the European Union
as it expands in 2004, Clubbers will be witnesses to
burgeoning political and economic changes that will have
global ramifications. This once-in-a-lifetime journey will
be driven by song and colored by personal interactions.
Support from our alumni and friends is crucial to the Glee
Club each year, but especially so during a year featuring
an international tour. Your support this year is especially
needed and is vital to the tour’s success. A gift of any
size can make the difference for Clubbers facing rising
tuition, increased housing expenses, and the general
increasing costs of living in Ann Arbor. With your help,
the Clubbers’ journey across England, Ireland, Scotland,
and Wales will be an unforgettable experience!
