CHANTICLEER VISITS MGC

1.30.2009

For Public Release

Unify vowels. Make natural shapes based on melody and text. Listen to the whole ensemble.

These are just a few of the extremely valuable nuggets of information the Club received from Chanticleer during their January 29 master class in Ann Arbor. The University Musical Society, School of Music, Theatre & Dance, and the Men's Glee Club collaborated to present the master class by "the world's reigning male chorus" (New Yorker) in conjunction with Chanticleer's concert stop in Ann Arbor that evening.

Club rescheduled its regular evening rehearsal so that the lads could attend the concert, and over 60 of the 100 took the opportunity to buy reduced-rate tickets to what was an astoundingly powerful evening of music. Chanticleer twice made gracious mention of Club during the concert - even responding to our snaps with some of their own - and came out en masse to Cottage Inn after the concert to join our troops for the usual mix of singing and merriment. It was a highly educational and memorable residency that Clubbers will be talking about for years to come.
