The Men’s Glee Club begins celebrates 150
years of Fall concerts with an all-American program of new and
diverse music. Founded in 1859, the Club continues to take pride
in performing music of diverse styles, traditions, and time
periods, and has championed the works of living composers. This
concert includes contemporary music in the classical, folk,
popular, and gospel styles. The concert features
the world premiere performance of a work by Pulitzer- and
Grammy-award winning composer
William Bolcom, a
five-movement set highlighting the poetry of University of
Michigan students. The Club will also perform A stopwatch
and an ordnance map by Samuel Barber, little man
by Kirstina Rasmussen, Everyone Sang by Joel Martinson,
The Morning Trumpet arranged by Mack Wilberg,
Lowlands and Let the Bullgine Run arranged by
Alice Parker, People Get Ready by Curtis Mayfield, and
Wonderful Is Your Name by Hezekiah Walker. As always,
the concert also includes the a cappella antics of The
Friars and concludes with rousing Michigan songs.
Special guests on this concert are the men of the
Southfield-Lathrup High School Madrigal Singers, Jeffrey Martin,
conductor, who appear with the Men’s Glee Club as part of the
inaugural Men’s Glee Club Adopt-A-Choir program for mentoring
and outreach.
