MARINES

Welcome to Charlie Company

What is Charlie Company?

Charlie Company consists of Marines and Marine Option Midshipmen training to become Officers in the United States Marines Corps.  Members include active duty Marines enrolled in the Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program (MECEP), Meritorious Commissioning Program (MCP), as well as Marine Option Midshipmen.  Charlie Company Marines and Midshipmen attend either the University of Michigan, in Ann Arbor, or Eastern Michigan University, in nearby Ypsilanti.

 What does Charlie Company do?

During the school year, Charlie Company conducts physical training (PT) as a unit three times per week.  PT typically takes place at North Hall from 0600-0700, and can include running, calisthenics, weight training, etc.  In order to reach their maximum potential, members of Charlie Company are expected to supplement unit PT with individual training.  In addition to PT, Charlie Company conducts Marine Skills training during Naval Science Lab on Thursdays.  Each semester usually culminates with a weekend field training exercise, where members are required to apply the skills they’ve learned, such as land navigation, patrolling and weapons handling.

Officer Candidate School

In order to be commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U. S. Marine Corps, all Marines and Midshipmen enrolled in the NROTC program must attend and successfully graduate from Officer Candidates School (OCS).  For members of the NROTC program, OCS is a six-week training cycle that takes place in Quantico, VA.  In most cases, Marine Option Midshipmen are expected to attend OCS the summer after their Junior Year, while MECEP/MCP Marines attend the summer after their first year at the university.  Much of the training that takes place here in the NROTC unit is designed to better prepare Midshipmen and Marines to succeed at OCS.

OCS Mission Statement

The mission of OCS is train, screen and evaluate officer candidates to ensure that they possess the moral, intellectual, and physical qualities for commissioning and leadership potential to successfully serve as company-grade officers in the Operating Forces.
