The University of Michgan Rugby Football Club traveled to Thailand from the 26th of February through the 6th of March, 2005, to compete in International Rugby matches, and assist in the Tsunami Relief Aid. The Division II Midwest Champions spent their spring break, typically associated with beaches and bars, working with the Tsunami Volunteer Center (TVC) in Khao Lak, Thailand. Michigan Rugby worked with TVC to rebuild schools, and communities, destroyed by December 2005's natural disaster.
Club leadership decided to travel to Khao Lak after Club members discussed skipping spring tour in order to contribute to aid work in Southeast Asia. Cooperating with Thai students at the University of Michigan, the UMRFC secured funding and hopes to be able to respond to community needs while on tour.
Aside from their aid work, the members of UMRFC competed against the British Club Bangkok, and the Southerner Rugby Club. UMRFC accepted donations to directly benefit the displaced residents of Khao Lak, Thailand. Please contact
