Michigan
Crew is one of the largest athletic teams on campus
with a membership of nearly 50 athletes.
We welcome all interested rowers and coxswains.
No previous rowing experience is required.
In fact, most students rowing at the collegiate
level did not row in high school.
The coaching staff
has extensive experience with various programs
including the U.S. National Team and other similar collegiate varsity programs. Michigan
Crew competes against other collegiate crews
at regattas throughout the fall and spring
racing seasons. During the winter, the team
concentrates on improving strength and conditioning
with ergometers and weight training while
the Huron River is frozen. During Spring
Break, the team travels South for a training trip. The rowing season ends with a
trip to the National Championships in Camden,
NJ. Last year, the team finished 17th overall
against the fastest crews in the country.
Rowing requires teamwork
and cooperation to succeed, meshing individual
drive and spirit of the men in the boat.
Crew will challenge you to push yourself
to the limits that you never thought you
were capable of reaching. The sport is demanding,
but ultimately rewarding.
