Wolverines Retain Oar - Sweep Buckeyes
Columbus, OH.-- The University of Michigan men's
rowing team held onto the WolverBuck Oar for the
11th year in a row, sweeping OSU 30-0 with wins
in five different races - the freshman 8,
varsity 4+, third varsity 8, second varsity 8,
and the first varsity 8. The consecutive victory
streak is the longest any Michigan squad has
ever enjoyed over the Buckeyes. The
Wolverines hold a 13-2 record in the 15-year
existence of the race.
In the opening races of the day, the Michigan
freshman 8-A boat was the fastest of nine frosh
crews, posting a time of 6:10. Finishing
second was the Ohio State A boat at 6:13.
In the four+ race the Wolverines won by a
26-second margin with a time of 7:14. The Maize and Blue's 3rd varsity
boat finished at 6:11, 29 seconds ahead of the
Buckeye boat, while the second varsity eight won
by a 26-second margin with a time of 5:51.
In the main race of the day, the Wolverines
jumped out quickly and cruised to a time of
5:30, with Ohio State's 1V8 finishing at 5:49.
Michigan will now head
indoors for winter training as they prepare for the
