Varsity Eight Leads an Excellent Day of Racing at HOTR
Rockford, Ill-- The University of Michigan Men's Rowing team performed well in their first opportunity to test their mettle against fellow crews this fall when they traveled to Rockford, Illinois, for the Head of the Rock on Rock River on Sunday afternoon, October 7.
The Wolverines took first place in four events, headlined by the Varsity 8 crew finishing seven seconds ahead of Purdue with a time of 14.12.42. Both the open four and the collegiate four took the top spot, with the collegiate four performing especially well, finishing almost a full 30 seconds ahead of second-place Minnesota. Michigan's other top spot belonged to Head Coach Gregg Hartsuff, who finished first in the Men's Master 1x with a time of 18.25.86.
The Wolverine Open 2 finished second in their race with a time of 17.26.53, while the Novice 8 finished just under two seconds behind Notre Dame with a time of 16.29.37. The Open 8 slid in at the fourth spot in their race at 15.22.01. Michigan earned 472 points, fifth overall.
The Wolverines will be back in the water in two weeks when they travel to Boston, Mass. for the Head of the Charles on October 20-21.
