Sail With Us - Our 71st Year!

We're a University of Michigan student organization, open to the public. Our members are students, faculty, staff, alumni, and many others in SE Michigan who love to sail and windsurf. Join us at our waterfront clubhouse in Dexter, and meet friendly new people while enjoying the sport of sailing - over spring, summer and fall.

We offer a unique and affordable opportunity to learn and practice the art of sailing. Originally founded in 1938 to provide sailing facilities for a small group of naval architects, our primary mission now is to develop our members' skills in all aspects of sailing. For the beginner, there is instruction. For the more advanced, there are advanced clinics, racing, teaching, boat repair, and the use of trapeze and spinnaker equipment.

Come to Baseline Lake and try us out! Your first two visits are free of charge or obligation. The only prerequisite to participating in club activities (including lessons, racing and more), is that you know how to swim. If you're new to sailing, we recommend that you begin by visiting the club on a Saturday morning anytime between 9 AM and Noon, and sample our sailing or windsurfing instruction. No reservations or advance notice needed. If you're familiar with sailing and want to know more about the club, stop by any weekend (or weekday afternoon after 6:30 PM, in summer) to check out our fleet and facilities. Don't forget to look at our calendar to see what special events may be going on this week.

When you come out to the club, please bring soft-soled shoes (so as not to damage the surface of our boats), a towel and change of clothes (in case you get wet!), a lunch (no food is provided at the club), and drinks (we do have water available). Please, no alcohol, and no pets. Life jackets are available at the club in all sizes but feel free to bring your own if you prefer.

If you'd like to become a member, come out to the club to join. We keep all the new member materials (including your copy of The Michigan Sailor, our club handbook) there. Talk to a club officer for more details.

If you're an undergraduate student at Michigan and interested in racing competitively, check out the Michigan Sailing Team.
