What other sorts of activities or instruction
would you find helpful or enjoyable?
- use committees to accomplish tasks
- Guest speakers at the clubhouse on the
weekends to discuss various aspects of
sailing. Different viewpoints on the sport
are always welcome.
- More informational videos would be nice.
More of the evening/moonlight sailing
events.
- As in the question above, I don't have a
car so it's difficult for me to find a ride
and even get to the club.
- Be able to sign up for sessions with
instructors other times than saturdays.
- I would like to do more ice-boating. A
long distance race might be fun one weekend
per year - on Baseline Lake, long straight
legs to simulate big boat long distance
racing. Tuning of the boat then becomes
important, not tactics (a different
approach).
- I would like to repair the Ice Boat.
- Hot tub!!!!!!!
- The club to provide additional training,
so larger, family boats (40-45 foot
catamarans) could be leased through
charters.
- Organized activities or games available
for those waiting for instruction.
- The Club should be open more often during
the week in the summer months (afternoons,
from 2pm for 2-3 days a week).
- trips to the great lakes for
windsurfing/sailing
- on the water coaching during racing,
clinics before, during & after
racing
- Planning on renovating the remaining 470s
at the club
- It might be fun to organize a weekend on
a lake other than Baseline, either
transporting our boats there or renting. We
could travel on Friday, camp out for the
weekend, and sail Saturday and Sunday.
It would be useful, particularly for
students, to organize transportation. It
could be something as simple as a website
that individuals would check on Friday night,
for example, in which "drivers" would
indicate their plans (and passenger space)
and "riders" would sign up.
Dedicated race tactic clinics are useful and
appreciated.
We might consider buying one or two "Pico"
type very small (8') boats for children.
Parents would have to sign a waiver, and
assume all responsibility.
Access to the sailing club and use of
unmodified JY15's are difficult for
individuals with disabilities. The costs of
improving access to the facilities and boats
would be substantial (prohibitive).
Nonetheless, it would be a good idea if we
were to explore the means of obtaining
necessary funds (eg. grants, University
contributions) to make U.M. sailing more
accessible to individuals with
disabilities.
What about a Saturday morning race (in
addition to Sunday) between 9 and 11 prior to
providing instruction for new sailors? This
way, many boats would be rigged and ready to
go.
What about a volleyball net? Horseshoe
pit?
- Racing instruction from those who are
good at it.
- Things seem just fine to me right
now.
- I am new to the club, so I really do not
have much to say about this. I am sure I will
at a later date though.
- Sailing on larger boats with others
Additional social activities
Water Skiing
- Advanced sailing instruction -- a way for
helm and skipper rated people to improve
their sailing.
- activities to help pair skippers and
crews for racing
-

Thank you for taking the time to complete this
survey. That act alone tells us of your
dedication to the club. Are there any other
issues that you would like the board to
discuss?
- Good job, Meg! Thanks for doing
this.
- Setting up a library with
sailing/windsurfing/iceboating books/videos
for membership to rent.
- A sale guy at the Windsurf Co. said that
some official windsurfing assoc. is
certifying windsurfing instructors. It would
be a 2-day thing. They'd need 10 people to do
it on our site. If less are interested, we
can contact the shop and join another group
in the Cass Lake area.
- Any chance the sailing club could sponsor
a sailing trip during the Christmas break to
someplace like Florida for a sailing getaway
for about a week?
- parking lot: some brush needs to be
cleaned out from the overflow spots on the
west arm of the drive
- It would be great to have one larger rig
for the sailboards... (maybe a 7.5) I'm glad
that we're getting some smaller sails to help
beginners get under way, but it would be fun
to have at least one rig with more sail area
so more experienced and/or larger sailors
could get planing in somewhat marginal wind
conditions.
Thanks for putting together this survey, it
was a good idea!
- Sometimes the club doesn't feel open and
welcoming to new members/prospective members.
I do not show up every week so I don't know
new people from the regulars. Otherwise I
would try to welcome new members more. I
don't know what a good solution would be.
I am willing to help out with some jobs
around the club but don't know what needs to
be done. I have some home repair/home
updating skills. Maybe a chalkboard or index
cards with jobs that need to be done could be
posted to get people to help out.
Ice-boating is a great way to sail. I would
like to see more ice-boating at the club and
I am willing to help out.
- How about a zip-line from the parking lot
to the dock? :-) (Just kidding)
- The 470's are excellent and we should get
2-3 more boats, at least.
- I think it would be a great idea to bring
a sailboat (or just a sailboard) to the big
club fair (or whatever it's called) on the
diag, I think it would attract a lot of
attention.
- The Microwave button on this survey isn't
working. It is very important to me. I have a
used one that Elizabeth bought that I can
contribute free.
One of the major complaints that I have
heard from family children is the mucky
bottom of the lake. I suggest that we explore
putting sand on the bottom of the swim area.
I don't know if it will be cost prohibitive,
or will stand up to boat waves. I'm sure that
it will get dirty at the shoreline. But it
will be better for young children, and might
help remove the foot cutting of the zebra
mussels. They don't do well on sandy
bottoms.
I think that we have plenty of trees, and
need the sun.
The bathroom condition turns many people off
to the club. I will help explore a tiled
floor and walls to stand up to the humidity.
Also, a hot/cold water mix or insulated water
tanks to cut down on condensation.
An outdoor shower, either off of the
clubhouse, or free standing off of the water
fountain. Rinse off dirt and possible
swimmers itch.
Good job everyone.
- Ensuring that we have enough helm
key/skipper rated members to keep the club
open on an ongoing basis. Currently we rely
too much on just a few members for this.
- A Coke/Water machine might be a good
source of revenue. They can be bought cheaply
from Sam's Club, would probably be used quite
a bit, and might be a nice addition to the
Club's funds. I think we really should look
into it and volunteer my services.
- Yes, as suggested by a question above,
please consider a larger boat, of such size
as a Flying Scot.
- I am no longer a member, but was never
contacted or billed to renew my
membership.
- I liked the idea of the club roster on
the internet, but I answered no to the survey
question because I was concerned that it
could lead to members getting spammed. If
access could be restricted to club members
then I would be for it.
I'd like to see something to screen the
patio from sun.
- FYI, I am taking this survey as a
prospective member, so my comments on the
number of boats, etc. is uninformed at
best!
I'm a prospective member, so I'm not sure my
opinions are well informed. My plan is to
join to expose my children to sailing. Issues
that I rated as lower priority might change
as I learn more about the club.
