What is the SCP?

The SCP is a student-run (well, mostly student-run) group that manages a number of computer conferences at the University of Michigan on its Confer U system. We are reachable by email to umscp@umich.edu, and our mailing address is: Student Conferencing Project, c/o Michigan Student Assembly, 3909 Michigan Union, Ann Arbor Michigan 48109.

The SCP currently runs three conferences, reachable by telnet to login.itd.umich.edu (type confer at the % prompt):

  • Meet-Ourselves: health-related conference. Discusses doctors, dieting, illness, exercise, and any other health-related topic.
  • Meet-Planners: organizational conference. Discusses policies and issues relating to the SCP and Confer in general.
  • Meet-Students: general social conference. Discusses just about anything and everything.

    • What is CONFER U?

    Confer U is a computer conferencing program written by Bob Parnes. You can find more detailed information on ITD's Confer U page, or the Confer U page by Confer U's author Bob Parnes.

    Who is the SCP?

    The SCP is composed of interested students, staff, faculty, and alumni at the University of Michigan. We help select organizers to watch over the conferences we sponsor, and assist in running and maintaining these conferences.

    The current organizers are:

  • Meet-Students: Emily Dresner, Kevin Hogan, and Neil McNeight
  • Meet-Ourselves: Laurel Rosenberg
