Greetings from MACC President Michael Cromwell

Greetings a cappella singers and fans!

Welcome to the University of Michigan’s official a cappella music headquarters!  The strength, depth, and tradition of a cappella at Michigan is tops in the nation—thirteen recognized groups perform every year to crowds of thousands, Michigan groups regularly appear on collegiate “Best of” collections, and the Big Ten’s oldest a cappella group resides right here in Ann Arbor!

The tremendous variety of groups also reflects our university’s unique—forgive the pun—cultural harmony: two all-male (GMen and the Friars), two all-female (Sopranos and Harmonettes), one Christian (Good News), one Jewish (Kol Hakavod), one Asian (Kopitonez), one multi-cultural (58 Greene), four other coed (Compulsive Lyres, Dicks and Janes, Amazin Blue, and Gimble), and even one graduate law group (The Headnotes) represent virtually every religion, gender, race, and even grad program the University has to offer.  If you wish to find a particular type of group, you can almost certainly find it here--or be free to make your own!

Back in 2002, the groups at Michigan decided to combine themselves with the University’s Arts at Michigan office to form the Michigan A Cappella Council (MACC).  The council looks to support its member groups by providing a forum for collaboration and raising the profile of a cappella in Ann Arbor and beyond.  We are eager to answer any questions you might have, so please email the executive board of the council at maccexec@umich.edu

Keep singing, and Go Blue!
