Tryout skills for April 12th
If you are planning on attending the tryouts for the University of Michigan Collegiate and Senior skating teams, here is a list of skills that you should practice beforehand:
-Stroking (perimeter) forward & backward
-Cross rolls: forward & backward
-Spins: Change foot spin, combination spin (upright/ sit spin/ back spin), flying camel, layback
-Steps: forward & backward double 3's (both feet, outside and inside), back outside 3-turn mowhalk (intermediate moves) on both feet, brackets, counters, rockers, choctaws, single and double twizzles (forward & backward on both feet: alternating feet), backward twizzle pull double 3 (both feet), back inside loops on both feet
-spirals: forwards and backwards, change inner outter inner
-Bielmans on both feet
-Ina bower right foot
-spread eagle right foot
-COLLEGIATE: needs to have a sequence of foot work made up
nhss : consisting of level 3 steps.
-SENIOR: needs a sequence of footwork made up
nhss: consisting of level 4 steps.

Calling high school skaters interested in Michigan!!
We will be having Wolverine Day on March 28, 2008 from 10:30am to 8pm. This is a chance for high schools to spend a day on campus with the UM Synchro
Team! Activities include a campus and dorm tour, a question and answer session,
shopping, lunch, dinner, and the Spring Ice Show, featuring both synchro teams and

Tryouts of 2008-2009 season!
The University of Michigan Synchronized Skating Teams are pleased to announce that tryouts for the 2008-2009 season will be held Saturday April 12th from 4-6pm at Yost Ice Arena on the University of Michigan campus. Tryouts are open to all interested skaters who are current students, admitted students, or waitlisted students. There is a requirement of juvenile moves for the collegiate team and novice moves for the senior team per USFS rules. If you plan on attending tryouts please e-mail the following information to our Coach, Brooke Sloan (uofmsynchrocoach@aol.com) by April 4th: name, age, year in school (admitted or waitlisted), moves/dance/freestyle levels, years of synchro experience (if any) and on what team, and which team you would like to skate on. If you are unable to attend our spring tryouts but would still like to skate on our team, please e-mail the above info to Brooke, and she will arrange either a summer individual tryout, or fall tryout. We hope to see you at then!
Senior team will go to Zagreb, Croatia next week
The senior team will be representing the United States in Zagreb, Croatia next week at the Zagreb Snowflake Cup. They are all excited to end their season with a great competition.
Teams compete at Nationals in Providence, RI
Both of the synchro teams travelled to Providence last week for nationals. The collegiate team really proved all their hard work paid off with a great skate and a pewter medal. The senior team skated a wonderful short program putting them in 5th place, but had a less than desirable skate in their long. They placed 7th overall but were still very happy with their season.
Teams have sucess in Nashville, Tennessee
This past weekend, the Senior and Collegiate teams both competed in Nashville, Tennessee for the 2008 Midwestern Sectional Championship. The collegiate team skated great and earned the pewter medal while the senior team also skated great and claimed the gold. Both teams are very excited and ready to go on to Providence, RI for the 2008 National
Synchronized Skating Championship.
Teams will be competing at Mid America competition
This weekend our collegiate and senior teams will be competing in Fraser, MI for the Mid-America Competition. Be sure to wish the girls and boy good luck!
Teams Compete at Dr. Porter Skating Competition in Ann Arbor
Both the senior and collegiate teams competed at the Dr. Porter competition in Ann Arbor on Decemeber 1st and 2nd. The collegiate team placed 6th and the senior team placed 8th.
UMFSC Winter Ice Show
Our first ice show of the year will be held on November 18th at 5:00 at Yost Ice Arena on State Street. Come and see the fantastic freestyle and synchronized skaters perform a variety of programs to the theme Holidays.
UMFSC Competes in Hoosier Challange in Colombus, Indiana
A group of our freestyle skaters traveled to Indiana this past weekend to compete in a variety of different events at this intercollegiate competition. Some of these events were team maneuvers, freestyle short and long programs, and ice dancing dance. Many of our skaters medaled. Congrats ladies!
Michigan to Represent USA in Croatia
University of Michigan's senior Synchronized Skating Team was chosen to represent the United States Figure Skating in Zagreb, Croatia in March 2008. The team will be traveling March 11 thru the 16th. In previous years Michigan has represented the USA at competitions in France, England, Czech Republic and Canada. Only the top six senior teams in the USA are chosen for these international competitions.
