Wolverine Weekend (our popular recruiting weekend) will be held in the springtime this year. Keep checking this page or email skateblue@umich.edu for updates!

Skating in college is a great way to continue participating in the sport you love while obtaining a degree. At Michigan, we strive for excellence in the classroom and on the ice, and as a result our skaters have the opportunity to obtain a first-rate education and at the same time represent a Big Ten school in competitions all over the country and the world. Being a member of the synchronized team gives skaters a support network to ease the adjustment to college life, and provides a small, tight-knit community within the large university. Skating in college fosters lifelong friendships and teaches skaters invaluable skills, such as teamwork, confidence, time management, and a healthy lifestyle. There is no better way to combine excellence in academics and athletics than at the University of Michigan.

The U of M Synchronized Skating Teams are open to undergraduate female students at the Ann Arbor campus. Tryouts are held in the spring, with additional spots being filled in the fall. There are no minimum requirements for the teams, and we encourage all interested skaters to try out, regardless of test level or synchronized experience. In order to try out, skaters must be accepted or deferred for admission and be planning to attend the University.

The University of Michigan is a very prestigious and challenging institution, and our skaters are students first and athletes second. Academic standards are high, and we have very little or no influence over the admissions office. Every skater must apply and be accepted to the University based on her own merits. Since Michigan has rolling admissions, make sure you optimize your chances by getting your application in early in the fall of your senior year. Visit undergraduate admissions to find out more information, schedule a campus visit, and submit an application online.

The Synchronized Skating Teams are designated as a Club Varsity sport, meaning that we receive some support from the Athletic Department, but very little financial assistance. Skaters pay monthly dues and participate in fundraisers to cover the costs of ice time, coaching, training, clothing, equipment, travel, and competition fees. Unfortunately, we are not able to offer scholarships at this time.

The U of M Figure Skating Club and Synchronized Skating Teams annually host Wolverine Weekend, an opportunity for high school students to skate with the teams, stay with a team member, attend a class, and see what skating at Michigan is all about. This recruiting weekend is typically held in the late fall, so keep checking this site for updates and information.

If you are a high school student considering attending the University of Michigan, please email us at skateblue@umich.edu to be added to our mailing list. Please include your name, address, phone number, email address, year of graduation, test level, and synchro experience (if any). Please visit our Frequently Asked Questions page for more details about the teams, and feel free to email us with any other questions you may have. Also, let us know if you are planning a visit to campus; we would love to meet with you and give you an idea of what our program is like.
