Housing
There
are various housing options for University of Michigan students
and faculty. Off-campus
housing (not owned and operated by the University) is extensive
and highly prefered over on-campus housing (residential halls).
Graduate
Students
The residence halls and Family Housing on the campus of the University
of Michigan are owned and operated by the University. Three of the
residence halls provide housing for graduate students. Graduate
students from over 90 countries live in these halls and Family Housing.
The first step for matriculated students to apply for on-campus
housing is to complete and submit the online International Student
Application Request form. However, on-campus housing for graduate
students is not guaranteed. Fortunately, off-campus housing
(not owned and operated by the University) is extensive and varied
in the area around the University of Michigan campus.
Undergraduate
Students
Fourteen residence halls on the campus of the University of Michigan,
which are owned and operated by the University, provide housing
for undergraduate students. Students from over 90 countries make
up 7 percent of the population of these halls. The first step for
matriculated students to apply for on-campus housing is to complete
and submit the online International Student Application Request
form. Only first-term freshmen are guaranteed on-campus housing.
Fortunately, off-campus housing (not owned and operated
by the University) is extensive and varied in the area around the
University of Michigan campus.
Visiting
Faculty, Scholars, and Researchers
Visiting faculty, scholars, and researchers are eligible to live
in University owned and operated Family Housing apartments located
on the campus of the University of Michigan. Over 65 percent of
the residents of Family Housing come from 90 countries outside the
United States. However, placement in Family Housing is not guaranteed,
since student applications are always given priority for available
apartments. Fortunately, off-campus housing (not owned
and operated by the University) is extensive and varied in the area
around campus.
