II journal seeks submissions Editors of the Journal of the International Institute are soliciting articles for the winter issue that cover international issues of importance to U-M, the country and the world. Faculty members who are working on an initiative, have an academic interest in an area, or have a personal account of a topic with an international focus are encouraged to submit articles. Past issues of the journal are available at: http://www.umich.edu/~iinet/journal. The deadline for the winter 2006 issue is Dec. 15. Faculty, staff eligible for free admission to athletic events Faculty and staff members who show their M-card at the gate will be admitted free in 2005-06 to home contests involving the following intercollegiate athletic teams: volleyball, women's basketball, women's gymnastics, men's gymnastics, wrestling, softball and baseball. Regents to meet Oct. 21 at U-M-Flint The Board of Regents will deviate from its normal schedule and hold its monthly meeting on a Friday at 2 p.m. Oct. 21 in the Michigan Rooms of the University Center on the U-M-Flint campus. Public comments will follow at 3:30 p.m. People with disabilities who wish to attend the meeting and need assistance should contact the Office of the Vice President and Secretary of the University in advance at (734) 764-3883. Library Search Tools to help research After a year of extensive testing and development, the University Library has moved Search Tools into full production. The library provides Web access for the University community to hundreds of databases, most not available to the general public through a regular Web search. Search Tools is designed to make research easier as it allows a quick and simultaneous search of several databases in selected subject areas. Search Tools also offers the ability to browse areas of interest to find the best databases and online resources. If more than one database contains needed information, Search Tools has the ability to search them all at the same time. Search Tools is available at: http://searchtools.lib.umich.edu. WCTF career conference seeks presenters Faculty and staff wishing to participate as a workshop presenter at the Women of Color Task Force career conference should send an e-mail to: wctfadmin@umich.edu by Nov. 14. The task force will host its 24th annual conference March 3 in the Michigan League. The conference theme is "Healthy Person, Healthy Society" and the event will offer 50 professional, financial and personal development workshops on work-family-life balance. 2005-06 Campus Safety Handbook available The Department of Public Safety (DPS) has announced the 2005-06 edition of the Campus Safety Handbook is available at http://www.umich.edu/~safety/clery2005.pdf. Hard copy versions also are available from the Office of Student Affairs, Human Resources and Affirmative Action offices, the Admissions office in the Student Activities Building, or any DPS neighborhood office. The handbook is a resource for issues of campus safety, including emergency services, safety tips, University policies and state laws, and additional support services. The publication also includes three-year statistics of reported crime on the Ann Arbor campus and adjoining properties in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. GROCS to consider rich media projects Grant Opportunities Collaborative Spaces (GROCS) is seeking student-initiated, interdisciplinary team projects that employ rich media to enhance collaboration in an academic activity. Rich media is any digital format that includes a time-based componentaudio, video, animation, virtual reality constructions or other data visualized over time. GROCS projects explore ways rich media might be integrated in a future academic environment, where the limitations of current infrastructure and practices don't exist. Selected projects will receive a $2,500 unrestricted cash grant per student team member (up to four); $1,500 per advisor; an equipped workspace in a collaborative environment at the Duderstadt Center; and limited funding for additional project-specific equipment to be retained by the University.
