New resource for Black history now availableA fully cross-searchable gateway to historical and current material for researching the past, present and future of African Americans, the wider African Diaspora and Africa itself now is available to all students, faculty and staff. The University Library has purchased access to the Black Studies Center (BSC) that includes the following databases: • Schomburg Studies on the Black Experience • International Index to Black Periodicals (IIBP) Full Text • The Chicago Defender historical back file (1909-1975) • Black Literature Index (1827-1940) The information in the databases includes scholarly essays, periodical articles, historical newspaper articles, images, video clips, a detailed timeline and more. An entry for BSC appears in the University Library's Search Tools Find Databases list (searchtools.lib.umich.edu/). The historical back file of The Chicago Defender, a leading African-American newspaper also is available through the ProQuest Historical Newspapers database. The Black Studies Center can be accessed directly through bsc.chadwyck.com/home/home.do. Startup costs for BSC came from the University Library Executive Council, the Hatcher Graduate Library and the Shapiro Undergraduate Library. More Stories
