Staff award nominations sought

Applications are being accepted online for the Workplace 2007: U-M Staff Recognition Awards. The Office of Human Resources and Affirmative Action honors staff members who have made marked contributions to the mission and work of the University. All staff members, including bargained-for staff, are eligible for nomination. Staff, faculty and students are invited to nominate candidates for the Distinguished Service Award, the Exemplary Team Award and the Outstanding Leadership Award. Get more information and/or make nominations at www.umich.edu/~hraa/workplace/index.html. Nominations must be at least one page long to receive consideration.

Spam reduction tool activated

Because of PenaltyBox, a new anti-spam tool activated March 26 by Information Technology Central Services (ITCS), many members of the University community should notice a reduction in spam. Initial testing showed that the tool reduces spam by 50-90 percent, depending on the type and amount a person gets. PenaltyBox checks mail sent from outside the University to uniqname@umich.edu and groupname@umich.edu addresses, and works cooperatively with other anti-spam services provided by ITCS.
