News BriefsO'Brien Center call for proposal applicationsThe governing steering committee of the O'Brien Center for Urology Research is seeking pilot and feasibility research projects. They should be focused on the basic, translational and clinical investigation of benign prostatic hyperplasia to be included in a competitive renewal application that will be submitted in March 2008, with funding expected in September 2008. If funded, each pilot and feasibility project can expect to receive approximately $60,000 for each one-year period. The O'Brien Center at U-M is funded by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases as a specialized center grant that promotes interdisciplinary and translational research in benign urologic disease. Fellowship applications sought The Institute for the Humanities invites applications for faculty and graduate student fellowships for 2008-09. Tenured and tenure-track faculty at the Ann Arbor, Dearborn and Flint campuses are eligible to apply. Faculty fellows are released from their usual teaching and service duties to pursue their research while continuing to receive their normal salary and benefits. They reside at the institute for the full academic year, participate in the weekly fellows seminar, and fulfill a service-to-undergraduates component. The deadline for submitting applications is 5 p.m. Dec. 3. Graduate Student Fellows have offices in the institute, receive a stipend of $2,580 per month and health insurance. Doctoral students who have attained candidacy at the time of application are eligible to apply for a 10-month residential fellowship. They participate in the weekly fellows seminar.
