I am a former electronics engineer (I worked at NASA's Goddard
Space Flight Center for 4 years) and meandered my way through teaching
and stuff before settling on computer consulting. I came to SI looking
for more solid grounding in the application of technology for solving
real problems for real people (as opposed to the prevailing sentiment,
which is to spend money on technology because it's the latest fad). I
came to this class looking for a way to broaden my horizons with regard
to what equipment is out there and how can it be used to better solve
people's problems.
My specific interests are in the education or small non-profit
sectors. (I am realizing that they're quite different but I'm not far
enough into my degree to make a decision.) Therefore, in this class
I'm interested in exploring how the technology we're examining can be
applied in educational or non-profit environments and improve the
performance of their respective functions. I'm a little wary of how
this may be used in non-profits and may end up settling on how to apply
this technology in education.
If anyone has any ideas about this (or anything else) or would like
to work with me on something, drop me a line! Thanks.
