Private Webspace
Requirements
- Passord Security
Passwords should not ever go over a wire unencrypted.
- Content Security
Content such as grades, patient records, and HR information should not
be distributed in clear text.
- Simple
The user interface must be very simple, because of the wide variety of
expertise among University of Michigan web users. (Faculty, staff,
student, alumni.) No modifications to the browser is ideal.
- Web-based
To facilitate as little installation on the client machines as
possible.
- Cross-Platform
Must support Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, and preferably
Lynx as a text interface.
- Fast
Speed is always an issue.
Other Considerations
- Expandable
Integration with other authentication methods and multiple Kerberos
realms, because there are 3 major Kerberos realms on campus.
- Portable
The University is migrating to Kerberos V in the near future.
