WeRead, a student-run volunteer organization at the University of Michigan, helps promote reading and writing through three different branches.
The Publishing branch of WeRead connects university authors and illustrators to write and illustrate a children's book. To apply to be an author or illustrator (or both!) please click "Application" on the left. Students work over the course of the year to complete the writing and artwork. These children's books are judged by a faculty panel and the winning book is mass produced through a small publishing company and distributed to elementary schools in Detroit. All of the books WeRead produces are compiled into an anthology which is presented to the school that BEAR visits once a week, to add to their reading libraries.
