        USE WEIGHT VARIABLE VCF0009/VCF0009A/VCF0009B.

        SEE VCF0201 FOR QUESTION TEXT.

For years where this variable appears in both the Pre and Post, the
        Pre versions are represented here.

In 1968 "don't know"s were coded 50 on thermometers; groups about
which the respondent "didn't know much" were also placed at 50 degrees
        during these years.

In 1972-1976, the respondent was not asked to give thermometer ratings
for individuals about which R "didn't know much" or "didn't know too
much." However, it is unclear whether such cases were coded DK or
NA: even within a single study year, "don't know much/too much" may
not have been coded consistently to one MD category.

This variable referred to Humphrey for 1968, Agnew for 1970 and 1972,
        Rockefeller for 1974 and 1976, Mondale for 1978 and 1980, George ,
Bush Sr. for 1982,1984,1986 and 1988, Quayle for 1990 and 1992, and
        Gore for 1994,1996,1998 and 2000.

        00-96. Degrees as coded
           97. 97-100 Degrees

           98. DK rating (exc.1968); don't recognize (1980 and later)
           99. NA; question not used
