WHO WON HOUSE RACE?
-------------------------------------------------------------------
USE WEIGHT VARIABLE VCF0009/VCF0009A/VCF0009B.
THIS VARIABLE IS AVAILABLE FOR 1970, 1974-1990.
This variable was created on a congressional-district basis (for each
individual respondent) using reference materials for R's congressional
district.
Note: 1974 California data for VCF1014 'Who Won' is not recoverable
because 'type of race' in California districts for the 1974 election
can not be determined.
Note that 1992 redistricted LA06 (2 Republican 'incumbents' neither of
whom had previously represented the geographic area) has been regarded
as an 'open' race (code 6).
WARNING: The procedures used in the creation of the VCF1014 'winner'
produced data that have been checked somewhat, but perfect accuracy
cannot be completely guaranteed due to the nature of attempting case-
by-case coding from reference material. The possibility of some error
must be recognized and the 'winner' established in VCF1014 should be
used with caution and at the user's risk. If you find errors, please
notify NES staff.
