USE WEIGHT VARIABLE VCF0009/VCF0009A/VCF0009B.
SEE APPENDIX "STATE AND COUNTRY CODES".
Note that in years 1952-1966 (unlike 1968-1990 in VCF0132) the
original coding by NES of foreign-born Rs was inconsistent. Some were
coded MD in these years (recoded to 999 here), while others were given
a foreign country code per appendix "STATE AND COUNTRY CODES".
For 1958, in an attempt to reconcile the original 1958 data with
the data in VCF0133, Rs who did not grow up in the U.S. (and who were
not asked this question) were coded into generalized foreign codes,
e.g., 'Central America,' 'Eastern Europe,' etc., based upon parents'
foreign origins according to information obtained in questions about
places of mother's and father's birth (SEE VCF0144,VCF0145).
Personal data forms were completed for no-pre cases in 1960: data from
these forms were incorporated in the (pre) income var listed here for
1960.
