SEE QUESTION TEXT VCF0110.
For 1952, 1956 and 1958: the original category recoded to code 6
here only mentioned "has a degree" or "completed college," without
specifying Bachelor's degree or 4-year college. Another code also
present in these years specified "some college;" it has been recoded
to code 5.
Code 6 includes 1 cases in 1968, 2 cases in 1976 and 4 cases in 1974
which were designated by respondents as 'honorary degrees.'
In 1986 and later, no code was present in the original data
corresponding to code 4: no cases appear in VCF0140 code 4 after
1984.
Personal data forms were completed for no-pre cases in 1960: data
from these forms were incorporated in the 1960 pre education var
listed here.
In 1992, this question was not part of the short-form questionnaire;
for short-form 'panel' cases, however, 1990 study data were
incorporated into the 1992 education summary variable.
In 1994, 1992 data were incorporated for 'panel' cases.
1. 8 grades or less ('grade school')
