Ginny Hughes

  • Graduated Magna Cum Laude with double major in Physics-Engineering & Math from Washington & Lee University

  • 1996 FHSAA (Florida High School Activities Association) top Female Scholar Athlete of the year

  • Inducted into high school and conference hall of fame (Dr. Phillips High School Hall of Fame, Metro Orlando Conference Hall of Fame)

Ginny (Jernigan) Hughes joins the Michigan program this year for her first season, and is in her 7th season coaching with Dunbar at the high school level.  Ginny specializes in coaching the goal keepers and the defense. Ginny attended college at Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, where she was an 8-time varsity letterwinner in soccer and lacrosse (1996-2000), and served as team captain for both.  

Hughes was an All-ODAC Conference Academic Award winner and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a double major in Physics-Engineering & Math.  She went on to Virginia Tech where she earned a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering with a Biomedical Option through Wake Forest University.  Hughes currently works as an airbag engineer at GM, where she is responsible for the overall project management for executing airbag implementation in vehicles. Ginny is married to assistant coach Kasey Hughes and resides in Birmingham, MI
