Personal Profile:

Katie joined the Wolverines last season after playing lacrosse for 11 years. She was a 2-sport varsity athlete at Sacret Heart, participating in Field Hockey as well as Lacrosse. In Lacrosse, she was an all Catholic League award winner, as well as an all-Region 1st teamer, an all Mid-West 1st teamer, an All-State 1st teamer, as well as an All-State Academic award winner and an Academic All-American. She was the team top goal scorer for both her junior and senior years, and was also a team captain her senior year, en route to the Division II state championships. She was also a Field Hockey Academic All-American and All-State Honorable Mention honoree, as well as All-Catholic league and Coaches' Award winner. Katie earned a solid role in the attacking rotation last year, and looks to be a dominating force this year as she has earned her way into the starting lineup.

College Career:

Mezwa looks to continue working on adapting her game to the competitive college level, and also wants to improve her mental game so she can see the field better and physically improve her stick skills. Mezwa is an explosive attacker who has a drive to goal like no other on the team. She sees the goal and goes for it, with multiple unstoppable moves that help her take it all the way. Katie is also a formidable player when redefending, as she is patient and quick-footed on defense, and often gets off the take-away check that turns the ball back over to her team. Katie hopes to join the Peace Corps and work for the United Nations, and is thoroughly enjoying her "Social Justice" class at Michigan as it helps her prepare to do those things after graduation. She is an International Studies major.
