Rachel Lary Interview

Britt Boehm Interview

Jess Stanley

Ann Arbor, MI -- Michigan (5-2, 2-0) came out of the gate firing, netting three goals in the first three minutes to set the tone in a 14-7 victory over arch-rival Ohio State (2-2) at Oosterbaan Fieldhouse. The Wolverines built a 7-1 lead at the intermission behind a stellar defense anchored by freshman goalie, Emmy Scheidt (Birmingham/Seaholm).

Ohio State kept it close scoring off the opening draw of the second half and then adding another goal just seconds later, narrowing the Wolverine lead to four. Sophomore, Rachel Killian (Plymouth/Ladywood) answered the Buckeye run off an eight meter

, rocketing a shot past the Ohio State goalie. Amy Johnson (Washington, D.C./Holton-Arms) kept the momentum going, scoring off a beautiful feed from senior quad-captain, Micaela Battiste (Flint, MI/Grand Blanc). The Wolverines put the game out of reach, getting goals from Britt Boehm (Cleveland, OH/Magnificant), Killian, and senior quad-captain, Rachel Lary (San Diego, CA/Torrey Pines) to go ahead 12-3.

Ohio State battled back with a 4-1 run to cut the Michigan lead to four. Buckeye captain Missy Taylor scored two of her game-high four goals during that run. The Wolverines stayed tough as Ohio State closed the gap said Lary, "We tried to keep our composure and keep working on the things we've been doing in practice."

This was Michigan's first game since returning from the Santa Barbara Shootout the first week of February. "It is tough to take that much time off, but we had a good week of practice and our coaches kept us intense and focused," said Boehm. "It's fun to host a tournament and be on your own turf with your own fans."

Game Notes: Michigan improved to 3-0 at home this season...Boehm, Jess Stanley (Bloomfield Hills/Marian), Killian, and Johnson all recorded multi-goal games for Michigan...Johnson has now scored in six of her last seven games...The multi-goal effort was Johnson's team-leading fifth of the season...Boehm continues to lead the team in goals with fifteen on the year...Michigan will take on Penn State in the second of its four Big Ten Tournament games over the weekend...WCBN's Matt Boyer and John Zaccardelli had the call of this game on the WCBN Sports Stream and on WCBN FM 88.3 in Ann Arbor.

Quotes:

Senior Midfielder/Attacker Rachel Lary: We wanted to implement a lot of the things we've been working on in practice...on attack, running through, spreading out the plays, midfield transitions, and then defensively staying tight on them watching our approaches and sliding.

Is it tough playing back to back games? We don't do it all the time but usually our tournament traveling schedules are pretty intense so we've gotten used to playing back to back games with little break in-between but we'll just rest over the hour and then get back in there.

Sophomore Midfielder Britt Boehm: It was a good all around effort, glad to be back on the field after a week off with spring break and I thought the team played well as a whole.

On playing after taking time off during spring break: It is tough, we had a good week of practice and our coaches kept us intense and focused...It's fun to host a tournament and be on your own turf with your own fans.

Jess Stanley: I thought we did a really good job of looking for each other on the field; our passing was really good, we hustled to the ball, and I thought overall we made good choices.
