Versus the Knights of UCF, the Wolverines jumped out to a 3-1 lead mid-way through the opening half before Central Florida tied things up with just under 10 minutes to go in the first frame. Goals from Ashley Steitz, Rachel Lary and Noelle Frazier just before the end of the half helped Michigan put some distance between themselves and the Knights however as U-M took a 6-3 lead into the break. Coming out of the break, the Wolverines received a major boost from Maggie Preketes who notched three second half goals to help Michigan keep their distance. Playing for an injured Julie Baskind, Amy Johnson recorded a team high five draw controls while Natalie Relich paced the sqaud with three groundballs. Liz Mennen finished with seven saves in the game. In the following game, the Maize and Blue held on down the stretch against the Gators after building a 9-5 lead on the efforts of seven different goal scorers. Goaltender Liz Mennen was the real story however, stopping a career-high 13 shots, including a number of late Florida chances to help secure the victory for U-M. With the two wins, Michigan improved to 6-2 on the young 2007 campaign. Michigan will play again in two weeks in the annual Michigan Invitational between March 8-11 that will feature quality opponents from all over the country. Be sure to check the schedule for a complete breakdown of the games.
